Task Eight: Conventions Of a Music Video

After conducting the research that I have done on music videos I have found that there are certain conventions that all music videos have :
Lip Synching
Close up of instruments if the video is of a band
Long shots of dancers in POP videos
Many changes of costumes
A range of shots to make the video more interesting, Long shots, mid-shots,close-ups, extreme close ups
Narrative
Montage editing if a Dance Genre
Moment of pleasure when the artist looks at the camera
Muted footage
Lots of Cutaways
Point of View Shots
Always have a dynamic feel, this is because of the editing that has been done making it fast paced
Moving Camera to enhance the footage
Match on Action
Concept

Task Five- California Girls- Katy Perry ft Snoop Dogg

This video definitely fits the genre of Pop, this is because the Mise-en-scene is bright and pink something that would relate to the audience that for this may be young children because of their fondness for bright colors or sweets but also to an older audience because it has a deeper meaning to it. Something that an older more promiscuous age of audience would understand.
The promiscuity is shown through the costumes in the videos at one point she is lying on a cloud wearing nothing.
This video has not really influenced our music video in the imagery, but it has shown us that we can make different links with our audience.
Task Three- Scouting For Girls- Famous

I also like the video because it relates to me the older student, who is moving away from home and will be living with friends, this link between the target audience and the video really attracts the audience and therefore makes it more successful. It also has an old feel to it, a 90's fill where people were making home made video with the massive cameras and the old keyboards. This may remind the target audience of their childhood creating a deeper link between the audience and the band.
