19.11.10

Today we have had another meeting with our extras for our video.

During the week that has passed we have been told that we could not use film our video during the school day as we would be needing to take students out of their lessons. So in todays meeting we spoke to the extras about when they would be free to film the video. From this we decided that we would film on Tuesday 30th November. This is when we will get most of our filming out of the way.

Task Seventeen- Track Permission Letter

We need to write a track permission letter so that we do not face legal action, this is because the song is copyright.

Task Sixteen- Talent Release forms

Task Fifteen- Location Permission Letters

Task Fourteen- Photoshoot plan

Task Thirteen- Advert Designs

Task Twelve - CD Cover Designs

Task Eleven- Shooting Schedule

Task Ten - Location shots

During the half term myself and Shelby went up to London in order to take some pictures of locations that we may use for our video.
The following pictures are from London Bridge and Camden Town. This is because we believe that they will look better for the video as it will make the video look more professional.

Task Nine- Lists of Props, costumes, make-up and equipment

9/11/10

Today, myself and Shelby had a meeting with the extras in our music video as well as the band. We played them the song and talked to them about the concept of the video.
After this we spoke to them about the image of the band and then the type of clothes that we wanted them to wear. For this we showed them images of different bands such as Paramore, We the Kings and You Me At Six.

We also spoke to the main girl (Shannon) and the main boy (Antony), we told them what we expected of them and what they would be doing in the music video.
After the meeting we had another media lesson, in this lesson myself and Shelby looked at prospective locations and went about booking them. We then wrote a list of the people that would be in the video and decided that we needed to talk to their heads of year to make sure that it was okay to pull them out of TWO lessons.
After that we needed to talk to their teachers of the lessons that they would be missing, as we needed there permission to take them out of their lessons.

Task Six- Image Annotation

We have looked at many of the genre of vidoes that we intend on doing and have taken images from them to create a moodboard to show you the idea of what we want the video to look like. We have also created a moodboard on the type of costumes that we intend on the people in our video to wear. We have taken images from shops such as Newlook and Abercrombie and Fitch as well as getting images of the bands images to help us mould the image of our band.

Task Five - Song Lyrics

Task Four- Song Details

Song Name: Easy Tiger- Kids in Glass Houses

This song is alternative rock. It does have a music video, however the video came out after we had planned most of the video. You will see that our ideas for the our video is a lot different from the actual video that has been made.

Task Three-Technical Tutorials- Green Screen

In this lesson we learnt how to use the Green Screen, to do this myself, Charlotte and Wesley performed Justin Bieber - Baby.
We were filmed from two different angles and then we used Final Cut to edit the footage. I found this infuriating as it was difficult to get used to the new way of editing.

Band Images and Photos- PhotoShop

In todays triple lesson we looked at band images and photos taken from their albums or photos that promote them. We looked at bands such as Coldplay and The Script, we also looked at solo artists such as Lady Gaga, Justin Bieber, Eminem and Usher.
We anaylised the composition of the band and the lighting. We also talked about the three different lights that are used when taking pictures. (key lighting, fill lighting and back lighting)
Further in this post you will see few of the photos anylised.

After looking at the images and talking about them in class, we decided to take some of our own photos. We looked at receating how other genres had taken the images and recreated the image in their own style.
Examples of the type of pictures that we took were, Girl Band, Mixed Girl and Boy Band, Solo Artists, Rock Band, Duets and Divas.

After taking these images we then learnt about Photoshop and how we could edit images to fit oour genre. We learnt how to upload the image, cut it out, using the selection tool or the Magic wand. We also looked at editing the images by using filters.

Task Two - Roles

Name- Ryan
Role- Cameraman
Why- We decided that Ryan should do the filming of the video as he has a steady hand and has done more filming than we have.

Name- Shelby
Role - Planning
Why- This is because Shelby knows this song well and so she knows what will fit where. She wiil know what will make the video look authentic and what will make it look chessy.

Name- Lucy
Role- Producer
Why- I am the producer as I know many people who would be in the video and I will be able to create the right image for the band. This also involves me getting people in to do the make up and making sure that the costumes are right.

Task One- Initial Ideas

Thoughts within the Group:

We as a group looked at different genres that we could do a music video on, this meant that we had to look at the artists that we could use. When we came back together as a group we looked at the genres that we had chose and realised that not all of us liked the genres that we had choosen. We then named bands that we liked and realised that we all liked Alternatvie music.

Once we decided on the genre we started researching bands making sure that they were british and that the song choices that we made were songs that did not have a music video to it. We narrowed it down to three bands, You Me At Six (Playing the Blame Game) , You Me At Six (Contagious Chemistry), Kids in Glass Houses (Easy Tiger).

We then decided to go with Kids In Glass Houses Easy Tiger.

Locations:

Field, Garage, Bedroom.

Task Eight: Conventions Of a Music Video

After conducting the research that I have done on music videos I have found that there are certain conventions that all music videos have :
Lip Synching
Close up of instruments if the video is of a band
Long shots of dancers in POP videos
Many changes of costumes
A range of shots to make the video more interesting, Long shots, mid-shots,close-ups, extreme close ups
Narrative
Montage editing if a Dance Genre
Moment of pleasure when the artist looks at the camera
Muted footage
Lots of Cutaways
Point of View Shots
Always have a dynamic feel, this is because of the editing that has been done making it fast paced
Moving Camera to enhance the footage
Match on Action
Concept
